Micromax Canvas 3 HD A116 (White) – Review, Unboxing and Pictures

Micromax Canvas 3 HD A116 is currently one of the best selling budget smartphone in India. Available at an online price of Rs.11500-13500, this quad-core smartphone offers features no other mobile can beat this price range.

Launched in February 2013, 9000 units were sold out within 24 hours when pre-booking was opened on 14th February 2013. The smartphone was a runaway hit with consumers due to its low pricing and top of the line features.

The Micromax Canvas 3 HD A116 was introduced at a price of Rs.13990, however delivery of the smartphone got delayed due to ‘procedural issues’ and price was hiked to Rs.14990 for changes in custom duty (as per Micromax’s retail partner Snapdeal.com)

The Canvas 3 HD A116 is powered by Quad-core MediaTeK MT6589 1.2 GHz Cortex-A7 CPU coupled with PowerVR SGX 544MP GPU, comes with a 5-inch HD IPS screen that sports 1280×720 resolution and a colour depth of 16.7 million.

The Canvas 3 runs on Android 4.1 (Jelly Bean) out of the box, however Micromax has released the official Jelly Bean 4.2.1 update for A116 Canvas HD. With this update, Micromax has enabled external storage usage which means that you will be able to move / install apps on external storage. The update for the Canvas 3 HD brings faster performance, Quick Settings, semi-transparent notification panel, Panorama in the camera and better GPS lock. In addition the update has also brought Over-the-Air (OTA) software update functionality so that you don’t need to visit service centers for the next update. However to update to 4.2 you need to visit the Micromax Service center.

Micromax is now shipping the flip cover free in the box. The white color version appears more premium with good matt finish on the back, but it tends to get dirty more easily, hence users preferring the white color will need to be careful.

Overall, the Micromax Canvas 3 HD A116 (White) is a budget and cheap smartphone which will give you bang for the buck. It has competed against the smartphone giants like Samnsung and Micromax has offered more value for money in their phones. So for people on a budget, Micromax is the new savior.
