Bhupen Hazarika Assamese Singer5th Nov, 2011 will go down on the pages of Indian Music and Art as one of the darkest. Dadasaheb Phalke recipient Dr. Bhupen Hazarika breathed his last on this day in Mumbai leaving millions of his admirers across the globe mourning. Dr Hazarika’s demise is certain to leave a void in the world music scene as his contribution is irreplaceable. Born and raised in Assam, Dr. Hazarika’s mastery of the craft spread beyond geographies and generations. A singer, writer, music director, composer and director par excellence, his music will stay on in the hearts of all his fans. He will be remembered with great fondness not just as a musician but also as an intellectual with a loving and compassionate heart. He was instrumental in bringing Assam and North East to the forefront of the global music scene. Future Sounds offers its homage to the great spirit of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika. May his soul rest in peace!
