After the mega launch of Relaince Jio last month, it is now the turn of Idea Cellular to launch its own movie and video streaming app on a pan India basis. Naming the app as “Idea Movie Club”, it has been set to launch considering the huge opportunity of revenue generation from content. Other telecom operators like Airtel are already in the market, providing movie streaming, and Idea Cellular is the latest addition to it, signifying that it does not want to be limited to being a connectivity provider only.

The Idea Movie Club app however is still in the beta, but customers can access the content for zero cost, as of now. It will be chargeable after the official launch though. Following the other operators, Idea can offer these contents to premium data and postpaid customers.

To provide the content, Idea Cellular has partnered with Eros, however, it might tie up with another content providers as well in the near future. In the global scenario, top mobile operators have already moved forward to become data content service provider as well. India is comparatively in still a very nascent stage, with the content being provided by the companies very limited. It is just hoped that operators will improve over time and develop apps to match the global standards. After Jio, revenue from voice calls seems to have drastically fallen down. Hence, additional revenues through content might help to offset those losses and would play as a catalyst to boost the data revenues as well.
